I know that 75% of users will not read the, not look at and never even pay attention to it but here I go anyway. I sometimes think I am doing this for the pure enjoyment of listening to my fingers on the keyboard. Yep all 4 fingers typing away.
On a more serious note. We are using Agora Olympus on this site because if anything happens or we find an issue, we know how to fix it. You (many of you) will not and will fill this forum with questions on how do I or I found a bug. 99.9% chance you have not found anything we have not already. So please take 10 -> 15 minutes of your time (we took more than 2,000 man hours) and do a little research. The first place to look is joomlame.com/bugs. Register and look around. It may be a little confusing to some and if so, you may ask questions on how to look things up. I would much more enjoy teaching you how to use Mantis (bug tracker) than to repeat "Yes we already know about this bug" or "no it's not a bug, it just hasn't been developed yet". There are many things on the to-do list, unimplemented and bugs and features.
Here are things to know if you are installing on a new site and Agora has not yet been installed.
Simply install Agora as you would any other component
Create a menu for it
Then go to components -> Agora and begin your adventure.
After creating each forum, you will need to go into each one, and edit the permissions.
By default, every one has access to your forums. Be sure to go in and set guests to read ONLY or turn Captcha on through the forum group permissions. This is simply done by going into the forum in edit mode and begin. Once in there the rest is easy.
For those of you already using Agora Pantheon or earlier, and feel experienced and knowledgeable about everything there is to know in Agora.... rofl Toss that out the window. This is an entirely new creature like you have not seen before. Before continuing
**** YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED BACK UP YOUR DATABASE *****
To upgrade your old version, make a backup of the folder components/com_agora/img
this folder contains all user attachments and user avatars. Uninstall Agora and reinstall the new. the rest is done for you. Then FTP img back in place
Admin panel is now in the Joomla back-end. All configuration is done there. All your settings etc... 10x more powerful than current version yet 10x easier to set up. (Or rather will be when we get the last of the issues fixed (sorry)
What every current permissions you have set up for your forums will be destroyed when installing this version. When installing this forum a new group is created called "Global". You will need to go into each of your forums. If the group exists, you will need to delete it and add it back. Then go through each role (guest, members, moderators, admins) and set the permissions you want each to have.
Cool thing about Agora 3.0 is now you have the ability to add users to an unlimited number of groups, make them moderators of 1 group, admins in another and even guests in another. This gets a little complex so I won't get into that now. I am sure you will have questions on HOW to's so I am prepared to answer those. BUT if you come back reporting bugs that are already in MANTIS, Well I will probably ignore you as you have ignored me
For those of you who decide to use Agora 3.0 on a live site, keep me posted, let me know what you think, and let's get the ideas rolling. I want to Make Agora 3.0 the best thing that ever happened to Joomla but need your help to do it.
If there are any developers, designers, translators, writers, technical writers or even just bloggers that want to help with Agora and or Joomlame, Please step forward NOW...
